Introducing: Fulfilled – The Podcast

Episode #4: Our Journey Through Miscarriage and Loss

I wanted to introduce this podcast episode by one of our PA Moms members in observation of Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day. Below is a preview from Tracy’s podcast episode, Our Journey Through Miscarriage and Loss.

This is the story of our early-term miscarriage & how we processed that. Trigger warning – this Episode contains discussions of miscarriage, pregnancy loss, and mourning.

President Ronald Reagan first declared pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month on October 15, 1988. On that day he said:

“When a child loses his parent, they are called an orphan. When a spouse loses her or his partner, they are called a widow or widower. When parents lose their child, there isn’t a word to describe them. This month recognizes the loss so many parents experience across the United States and around the world. It is also meant to inform and provide resources for parents who have lost children due to miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, molar pregnancy, stillbirths, birth defects, SIDS, and other causes. Now, Therefore, I, Ronald Reagan, President of the United States of America, do hereby proclaim the month of October as Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month. I call upon the people of the United States to observe this month with appropriate programs, ceremonies, and activities.”

I did some research – Ronald Reagan and his first wife, had two daughters – Maureen and Christine. Christine was born in 1947 and sadly she only lived one day. I can only imagine how that experience, that loss, shaped President Reagan’s position, desire to declare October Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month.

Tracy’s Why –

Fulfilled – The Podcast was born from a burned out overwhelmed Mom in Medicine who just knew there was something more. Something more than feeling like she was running & running on a hamster wheel until she dropped was the way life was. Something more than feeling like work was getting the best of her and herself, her husband, her kids were getting what was left over at the end of the day, the night, the week or the month.

Fulfilled is a way to share stories, tips and tricks, and to help working moms navigate life, find work-life balance and to re-discover joy and fulfillment. Having babies and being in medicine are so very distracting – medicine is a demanding field and there is no field more demanding than motherhood.
